++ Iron Breakfast ++

Another night shift and a brutal fatigue sets in. The body, the mind and the stomach need ritual pleasing. Pancakes are that pleasurable experience that can either go two ways – sweet or savory. If you read the last post which at some-point, I pontificate on finding that sweet spot, the one where the two meet, like chicken and waffles, this combination hits the target right in the center. A haggis was unleashed as a gift upon me the other day and it wasn’t long before I figured out what to do with it. This haggis here was only spawned recently and so it was fresh for the frying. If you don’t like the idea of eating the minced heart, liver and lungs of a sheep, the get out while you still can.

If you truly look into taste, if you go past the yick factor and try to describe what something tastes like other than salty, sweet, then you have to break it down into less familiar descriptions: “It tasted of metal and vegetation”. That has got to be as true as it gets. All the body parts involved in this are rich with iron, so the resulting taste is a metal tang. They also have a earthier taste, than their meatier blood rich counterparts, i.e. legs, rumps and shoulders. Add the onions and oats that mix in and you have more vegetative bite.

Pancakes and bacon rock, but haggis and pancakes are metal!
