Be My Bloody Valentine

bleeding heart cake 2012

I left my heart out, bloody and in a box. Tied with a coarse red string. Placed on the chopping board in the kitchen, a knife laid by its side. When I turned off the light and locked the front door, she was still sleeping. The freezing February air cut through my coat and bit into my open wound; the pain burnt real good. I imagine the true romance of all-consuming love, every last bite of it – sliced and diced.

Just to be clear, that is not my heart, it was a lovely red velvet, rich blood-red cocoa cake w/raspberry blackcurrant coulis from Lily Vanilli and her team of bakers, who if your looking for them hang out here: 6 The Courtyard, Ezra St. London E2 7RG
